G2P-SOL, TRADITOM and TomRes create synergies on European level

Good things come in threes: The European research projects G2P-SOL, TRADITOM and TomRes teamed up and held a joint session in Turin.
 
The new H2020 initiative TomRes started its activities in June 2017. During the kick-off meeting, G2P-SOL coordinator Prof. Giovanni Giuliano and TRADITOM coordinator Prof. Antonio Granell introduced the vision and objectives of their running projects to the TomRes team.
 
TomRes will develop an approach that enhances resilience to combined water and nutrient stress using tomato as a model. The partners are working to find solutions that safeguard yields while preserving the environment by maximizing water and nutrient use efficiency.
 
The project is led by Prof. Andrea Schubert from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences at the University of Turin. For three years to come, he will coordinate 25 institutions from across Europe and Israel. Just like for G2P-SOL and TRADITOM, knowledge transfer among farmers, breeders, industries, associations and scientists will take centre-stage and is ensured by a solid multi-actor approach.
 
While TRADITOM seeks to valorise traditional tomato varieties, G2P-SOL is linking genetic resources, genomes and phenotypes of Solanaceous crops. All three projects are being funded by the European Union’s H2020 programme in the field of “Sustainable Food Security – Resilient and resource-efficient value chains”.
